The Power in Purpose
Thirty years ago, if you’d have asked Manny Sedano about his career aspirations, he would have told you he wanted to be a police officer. But after a four-year stint in the military, Manny accepted a sales position with a family friend who happened to manage a car dealership. It was there he discovered his passion and a renewed sense of purpose. What began as a summer job blossomed into a fruitful career. He now owns five dealerships across the San Diego area where he grew up, and leads the Sedano Automotive Group he founded.
When asked about the keys to his success, Manny says his willingness to help others and work hard played a big role in opportunities coming his way. “I never knew what my restrictions were. To be honest with you, I just raised my hand for everything and worked like I needed to feed a family of 10.”
Manny has maintained this philosophy as he’s grown to lead a team of nearly 400 employees. He believes in the power of building up the people at the heart of his business, because when you create a sense of belonging and purpose, you create a work environment where people are motivated to show up as their best selves. “I think everybody can be inspired,” says Manny. “You just need to know how to inspire them.”
